Image
It is no secret that every woman wants to look the her best all the time thus we spend most of our time watch  YouTube beauty channels repeatedly to learn how to perfect our makeup routine; but more often than not we come to realise that we either don't have the many make-up brushes used in this videos or we simply don't have enough cosmetics to achieve the very sought after flawless look that we so wish to master. Having realised that there is limited knowledge about various functions of make-up brushes, I decided to write this blog to provide a basic guide on the make-up brushes that every woman needs in order to achieve a well applied, well blended and naturally looking flawless make-up.         In my quest to find a high quality brand of make-up brush sets I discovered a beauty brand called  Mikasa , at first glance it undoubtedly meets the quality and standard of a premier brand but what I particularly like is the variety of brush sets that they offer: for

TAKE A QUIZ AND KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE

Image
With so many skin care products to choose from on the market, without proper skin diagnosis one could possibly be spending money on products that are ineffective, aggravate your existing skin condition and that could potentially cause serious skin damage. Thus, understanding your skin type is crucial for effective skincare regime. Skin is generally classified into four main skin types: oily, dry, normal and combination.  There are three zones that the face is divided into that you should know to be able to easily identify your skin type; the T-Zone, S-Zone and the Eye-Zone. The T-Zone is the area that covers the forehead, nose and the chin. This t-shaped area is mainly made up of oil glands and it is prone to oiliness and acne break-outs. The second zone is the S-Zone which is the area that covers the cheeks and the temple. And the third one is the Eye-Zone which is the sensitive, thin skin around the eyes. Each of this areas have their own characteristics in terms of the

FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION: HAIR REGENERATION

FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION (FUE) HAIR TRANSPLANT: step-by-step procedure.   Losing hair does not just alter your image, it is psychological; the greater the hair loss the greater self confidence you lose.  You became self–conscious, often you don’t like what you see in the mirror and constantly wonder what everybody thinks of your new image.  It is undoubtedly a major change, stressful and one that most aging people experience. Luckily there are a few products on the market that can help regenerate hair and one worth considering is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant which is the extraction of hair follicles from the back of the donor’s head and transplanting it into the balding area using non-invasive surgical tools.    Below is a step by step procedure for Follicular Unit Extraction technique. 1. Shave the donor area The extraction (donor) area usually at the back of the head is shaved and injected with aesthesthetics to numb in preparation for ex

UNDERSTANDING CHEMICAL PEELS

Image
Chemical peels: what are they and how do they work?                     Chemicals and peeling does sounds like a scary combination, doesn’t it? When you think of chemicals on your skin, a lot of safety concerns arise and you wonder how is it going to affect your skin? If it is safe to use or if you could just be exposing yourself to something potentially dangerous. Hence, my interest in the whole concept of chemical peels. Chemical is defined as a substance used in or produced by a reaction involving the change to atoms and molecules. Whereas, Peeling is the removal of the outer covering of an object by tearing or stripping it off. Therefore the definition of chemical peels is the use of a chemical solution to remove the outer layer and in this case, it is the technique used in the beauty industry to remove old skin layers that are damaged to encourage the regrowth of new skin that looks younger and smoother. The treatment is typically done on the face to resurface skin with

BOTOX

Image
What you need to know about BOTOX                           BOTOX is made from a neurotoxin botulinim toxin extracted from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum that is found in the soil, lakes and intestinal tracts of mammals, etc. In the beauty industry it is used cosmetically to relax muscle, remove or minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the injected muscle. Botulinim toxin is a poisonous substance and when administrated in high concentrations in can result in a life threatening disorder called botulism which is the disruption of the neuron signaling process in the body resulting in respiratory failure and death. However, when botulinim toxin is injected into the body in small concentration during a BOTOX treatment, it paralyses the muscle and prohibits muscular contractions by preventing the release of acetylcholine and blocking nerve receptors that are responsible for muscle contraction under normal circumstances. Thus, relaxing the un

SUNBURN AND SUNSCREEN

First thing that comes to mind when you think of a holiday is lazing around at the beach, enjoying the sun and hoping for a golden tan but often what we get is sunburn. So what exactly is sunburn?          It is the damage to the skin often indicated by redness, irritation, skin tightening and darkening due to excessive sun exposure. When the skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays for a long period our blood vessels dilates and blood rushed to the peripheral of the skin resulting in symptoms such as redness and inflammation.  Sun damage can be defined as the damage caused by the penetration of two types of ultraviolet light namely UVA and UVB on the skin consistently for a long period. The risk of having skin cancer, premature aging, development of permanent hyper pigmentation and skin irritation can increase as a result of sunburn. In certain cases, the skin becomes excessively dehydrated and starts to peel off; often on the nose, forehead and the back. Therefore, should you

THE ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF SKIN

What is SKIN? The study of the skin is called dermatology derived from the latin word ‘dermis’ which means 'the skin'. It is the outer covering of the body also known as an integument. The skin is the largest organ that protects the surface of our body from infection and any other harmful invasions that may compromise our wellbeing. It is made up of three layers; the epidermis, the dermis and hypodermis also known as the subcutaneous layer. The epidermis is the outermost keratinized layer of the skin that is predominately made up of pigmented dead skin cells. Furthermore, the epidermis is divided into five different layers known as stratum basal or germinatum,  stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidium and stratum corneum.  The second layer is the dermis which mainly comprises of  blood vessels, nerve cells, sweat glands and the hair follicle. The basal layer of the skin is the hypodermis also known as subcutaneous layer; it is predominately made up of fat
