FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION: HAIR REGENERATION
Losing hair does not just alter your image, it is psychological; the greater the hair loss the greater self confidence you lose. You became self–conscious, often you don’t like what you see in the mirror and constantly wonder what everybody thinks of your new image. It is undoubtedly a major change, stressful and one that most aging people experience. Luckily there are a few products on the market that can help regenerate hair and one worth considering is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant which is the extraction of hair follicles from the back of the donor’s head and transplanting it into the balding area using non-invasive surgical tools.
Below is a step by step procedure for Follicular Unit Extraction technique.
1. Shave the donor area
The extraction (donor) area usually at the back of the head is shaved and injected with aesthesthetics to numb in preparation for extraction of hair follicles.
2. Punch incision around hair follicles
Using a non-invasive surgical puncher incisions are punched around individual hair follicles in the donor area to be extracted in the next step.
3. Follicular Unit Extractions
Follicular hair units are carefully extracted from the area of donor and kept in a sterilized container until implantation to the balding area. This step is sometimes referred to as Graft Harvesting.
4. Implantation of follicular hair units
Punctures are made to the balding area into which grafts are implanted for hair regeneration over a couple of months. The patients might be required to wear a head bandage for a few days to speed up the healing process but it is not a necessity. It can take approximately 3 month for the new hair to fully grow and blend in with the rest of the hair. The hair grows normally thereafter, it is an effective option and a permanent solution worth considering.
